Be realistic, lower your expectations

It’s not until we start managing our own schedule that we realize how difficult it is to really do 8 hours of work.

Things always get in the way… meetings, discussions, calls, emails, breaks, Facebook, etc. We continuously leave work late dissatisfied of only having done half the things on our agenda…

Yet, the next day, we start with the same unrealistic expectations. An empty schedule is an exciting opportunity to do a full day of work…

As long as we don’t acknowledge that procrastination, meetings and distractions are part of the “work”, we’ll always feel unproductive.

The average real productivity is 55% of our time (Mike Cohn). Worst, it declines with longer days…

Be realistic, plan for overtime if you need to do more than 4-6 hours of billable or real work today…
