For a while, I was doing work for a partner agency. My contact there – lets call him Andrew – was a really fun and easy-going type of guy.
We were Facebook buddies, LinkedIn contacts and were in touch almost every week. For a while, it seemed like he knew everyone, was able to get anything and, as long as the money was rolling in, it was all very exciting.
I don’t know why but, I didn’t see it coming when he started making me feel bad for not giving him below market rates, priority status, etc, etc… Last time I had seen that was probably in the Godfather…
Our relationship turned bad once I started saying no; the timing wasn’t really good.
Be careful, some opportunities and favors are not free; they’re merely an investment in making you feel indebted.
